My secret beauty tips and tricks!

Sunday, 2 March 2014

I have followed beauty and fashion magazines pretty much since I learned to read! Although this meant over the years instead of analysing Shakespeare I was experimenting with at home hair masks, it has given me a fairly good knowledge of little tips and tricks (if I do say so myself haha..!) There are so many I don't want to turn it in to a marathon read, so this is part one, enjoy!

  1. Gently heat your eyelash curler under a hairdryer for about 20 seconds - you want it to be warm not hot! For a more effective curl
  2. Pop some baby oil in to your hot bath for gloriously silky smooth skin - be careful when you stand up though, it can be slippery!
  3. Hold an ice cube on to a blemish to reduce redness and swelling - hold it with a flannel though so your fingers don't get too cold
  4. Exfoliate your lips with a dry toothbrush for smooth lipstick application - after exfoliation smooth on some vaseline to restore hydration
  5. Sleep on a silk pillowcase for happier skin and hair
  6. I know everyone has heard this a million times, but drinking enough water is so important. There are so many benefits, including improving your metabolism and glowing skin
  7. Always use a fresh flannel every time you wash your face, never use the same one twice! nasty bacteria forms and it is not good for your skin
  8. If you have oily or blemish prone skin do not use over harsh products, these will strip your skin of essential oils and actually cause your skin to produce more oil (aaah!)
  9. Sudocrem is your best friend, slather this on to any blemishes at night and wake up in the morning for them to be extremely reduced or even completely gone!
  10. Hot water and lemon in the morning aids weight loss by giving your metabolism a jump start and is good for your skin. It also tastes very yummy and refreshing!
  11. Pop two teaspoons in the fridge before a night out, in the morning when you're not feeling so great place them on your eyes to instantly soothe and refresh
  12. For the most effective body moisturising apply your lotion after a hot bath or shower, it will sink in almost instantly
  13. The same with facial cleansers and masks. The hot water has a steaming effect which opens pores, allowing the product to penetrate more deeply
  14. Wash your makeup brushes regularly! Otherwise they harbour nasty bacteria which is not hygienic or good for your skin
  15. Wash your makeup brushes with baby shampoo. This is the most gentle stuff you can buy, it won't damage the bristles on your brushes and if rinsed correctly, leaves no residue!
  16. As difficult as it can be sometimes, get enough sleep! This is when the body repairs itself, which is crucial to feeling and looking good
  17. To highlight where to apply your lip liner do a closed mouth smirk (as silly as it looks) and you will see the outline of your lips perfectly
  18. Use a q tip to erase any mascara or eyeshadow errors - I don't know how many years I have been applying mascara but it always seems to go everywhere. I have a huge stack of these on my dressing table and they are life savers!
  19. To avoid the ghost face look in photos use a foundation with no SPF in it
  20. For super shiny hair rinse your conditioner with cold water to seal the hair cuticle
