Okay so let me start this post by saying please can we ignore that my nails look as though they have been painted by my cat in these pictures! I am by no means a professional manicurist but over the years I have learned some tricks to improve the condition of my nails to help them grow.
Don't bite them!! Not only will this obviously shorten the nail it is also extremely unhygienic. Just all together not a good idea.
Pop on some nail varnish - I remember reading in a magazine that nail varnish adds strength to your nail making it harder for them to break as it has an extra "protective layer", which seems extremely logical!
Eat a healthy diet - A balanced diet is the perfect recipe for happy skin, hair and nails. Adding in some extra vitamins is always an added bonus. There are loads that you can buy at boots.
Avoid gel/acrylic nails - These are a great short term fix and do look very pretty, but if you want your natural nails to grow steer clear! They weaken your nails causing them to break.
Specific products - The Sally Hansen miracle grow nail varnish has made my nails feel a lot stronger. You can apply it as a base coat before you apply a colour or just on it's own as a treatment. A more luxurious product that I received as a present is the Mavala Nailactan. This is a luxurious cream to be applied to the nail to restore amino acids, lipids and keratin. This is a fabulous product and the combination of using this with a balanced diet and the Sally Hansen pen has really helped my nails.
